Abstract:
In-depth look at SQL Server Partitioning. This session will explore SQL Server partitioning in SQL 2005 and improvements made in SQL 2008. Learn how to implement SQL Server partitioning, administration of partitioning, and data management options. There will also be a brief intro into vertical partition design pattern with SQL Azure. The presentation will include several demos and code samples.
Speaker Bio
Troy Gatchell is a seasoned SQL Server Professional with a bachelors degree in computer information systems and a masters degree in business administration. He has over 10 years of experience in design and administration of large scale SQL Server implementations in a range of industries including e-commerce, financial, health care, and cloud storage. Currently, Troy is the Sr. Database Administrator for Provide-Commerce responsible for the production database systems supporting brands Proflowers.Com, RedEnvelope.Com, Cherry Moon Farms, and Sharis Berries.Troy has published articles for SQL Server Worldwide Users Group including: "Custom Scripts to Get DMV Results Fast" and "Archiving Partitioned Data to the Cloud."
Troy has previous experience in classroom instruction with the United States Army as a Non Commissioned Officer (NCO) including West Point Military Academy Summer Camp and Cold Weather Survival Training. In addition, Troy taught basic soldier skills and air defense systems for 5 years as a Battalion Training NCO in the Ohio National Guard.
Troy has a passion for table partitioning, T-SQL code optimizations, VLDB implementations, and teaching.
